“22 Things You NEED to Do When You Move!” for Soprano and Piano (2022)

Performers: Jessica Beebe (Soprano), Laura Ward (Piano)
Program Notes: This piece is intended as a joke satirizing web articles providing life advice. The lyrics were created using various bits of different online articles providing a mixture of both real and fake advice for people moving to a new home. The piece begins unassuming with real moving tips but gradually descends into chaos as superstitious and absurd warnings are near-screamed by the vocalist while the piano underscores the tension with a increasingly fast ascending line doubled in both hands.

“A Bird Came Down the Walk” for Tenor and Piano (2022)

Performer: Thomas Ginnona (Tenor, Piano)
Program Notes: The lyrics for this song are taken from the Emily Dickinson poem of the same name. The music and song was inspired by Aaron Copland’s “Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson” and is an attempt to combine many of Copland’s stylistic tendencies (open voicings, seventh and ninth chords, etc.) with my own. Instead of being recorded live, the piano part was created using MIDI with post-processing effects applied to give it a more realistic sound akin to an actual piano.
